In order to run on Autogas, vehicles can also be converted to run on autogas by installing a separate fuel system allowing the vehicle to switch between two fuels.

Light-duty vehicle conversions involve gasoline-powered engines. Specialist companies using standardised kits, including a parallel autogas fuel system and tank, typically carry out conversions. The tank is usually installed in the boot/trunk. The development of new technologies, including ring-tanks and lightweight composite tanks, have helped to alleviate the marginal loss in acceleration and speed due to the extra weight in the trunk. CNG converted vehicles have the same problems. This inconvenience is offset to some extent by the lower weight of autogas fuel compared to gasoline and the increased flexibility provided by the dual-fuel capability of converted vehicles.
Various conversion arrangements include endorsement of a specialist suppliers equipment (homologation), warranty of approved after-market conversions fitted to the vehicle, off-line assembly of an autogas conversion kit, on-line assembly of autogas components alongside (dual-fuel) of gasoline fuel systems, optimised mono-fuel systems, assembled on line and in place of gasoline fuel systems
