P T Pertamina (Persero) & WLPGA - LP Gas Workshops
Two one day LP Gas workshops, jointly organized by Pertamina and the WLPGA, were held in Yogyakarta, Indonesia on 19th and 20th November 2009 at the Grand Hyatt Hotel. Over 100 delegates attended the workshops over the two days. The objectives of the workshops were to review the progress of the Indonesian kerosene to LP Gas conversion programme and identify areas for improvement in respect to safety and the quality of the proposition to the consumer.
Representatives from some of the key third party suppliers to the conversion programme attended the first day which was attended by over 70 delegates. These included LP Gas equipment manufacturers, distributors and filling plant operators.
David Tyler, a Director of the WLPGA, presented the group with some information and background to LP Gas and LP Gas equipment, especially in respect to the safe storage, handling and distribution of the product. He emphasized the importance of applying good business practices when dealing with LP Gas, referring to the WLPGA’s recently updated publication Good to Good Business Practices. There was also a presentation on risk assessment within the kerosene conversion programme. The delegates were then divided into four groups to examine and review in detail, areas of concern and opportunities for improvement, in respect of the equipment and operations. This included LP Gas cylinders, valves, regulators, stoves, accessories, filling plant operations and handling & distribution.
The WLPGA facilitated the discussions and feedback from the groups on day one.
The comments and recommendations from this key group was then fed into the second day.
Michael Kelly, a Director of the WLPGA, joined David Tyler for the second day which was attended by Pertamina staff only. After some brief presentations from the WLPGA about importance of safety in the industry, and the role of LP Gas as an exceptional energy, the results of the day one workshop were presented to, and reviewed by, Pertamina staff.
There was some very constructive debate throughout the day and several recommendations for improvement will now be addressed and reviewed by Pertmina as they move into the final phase of the programme. Pak Hanung Budya, Senior Vice President of Marketing for Pertamina, closed the workshop and asked all Pertamina staff to study the recommendations carefully and develop an action plan with a timetable for improvement. He thanked the WLPGA for their support in jointly organising and contributing to the success of the workshops and issued an invitation to return in 2010 for a follow up focusing on Pertamina’s operations.
