HNS Convention
The International Convention on Liability and Compensation for Damage in Connection with the Carriage of Hazardous Substances by Sea 1996 (HNS Convention) will, when it comes into force, provide compensation for damage resulting from the maritime transport of hazardous and noxious substances (HNS).
The HNS Convention was adopted by Governments at a Diplomatic Conference in 1996 organized by the International Maritime Organization (IMO), a specialized agency of the United Nations.
LP Gas falls under the definition of HNS and the WLPGA was keen to participate in the discussions on the HNS Convention and applied for observer status.
Following an application in June 2009 to the Assembly of the International Oil Pollution Compensation Funds (IOPCF), which administers the setting up of the HNS Fund, the WLPGA has been granted observer status.
We were keen to ensure our members were not only properly represented but also to provide the Assembly with information about our product and the way it is shipped around the world. For more information contact David Tyler on dtyler@worldlpgas.com or visit the IOPCF website at www.iopcfund.org
